Heléné

Twice a week, Emily, Jesse and I visit with Heléné, a young lady from Democratic Republic of Congo who is a university student here in Ouagadougou. We meet with her to practice French and she likes to practice English, because she is working on a degree in English. She is a really sweet, caring young lady who’s becoming one of our good friends here in Ouaga.

Here is a picture of Emily and I with Heléné outside her home. She lives in a small two-room apartment that shares a courtyard with several other students’ apartments.

Last week she invited us to eat dinner with her. Check out the huge feast she prepared!


In the traditional African way, she served way more food than we could ever eat! It took Heléné all day to parepare the meal, which included rice, fish with sauce, bean sauce, fried plaintains, vegetables, and foufou (which is made of manioc). Everything was delicious!
