Soccer, Soccer, Soccer

We have been super busy this month gearing up for our coverage of the FIFA World Cup. It starts in less than a week! As a photographer, Deron has already been able to attend some press conferences, practices and a "friendly" match with the USA team.

Although the main focus of our media coverage will be the missionaries and volunteers doing ministry during the World Cup, we are also doing some stories on the teams that have Christian athletes, particularly the US and Brazil.

Last week we attended a "friendly" match between South Africa and Colombia. This gave the players and chance to practice and the coach a chance to see which athletes he'd pick for his World Cup squad. It was so fun to sit in the midst of 70,000 flag-waving, vuvuzela-blowing South African soccer fans!

As hosts of the World Cup, South Africans definitely have soccer fever. Every third car on the roads displays a South African flag on their antenna, window or side mirror. We're having a hard time knowing which flag to display, since we support the US, Argentina, the Ivory Coast and South Africa!
