As the Waters Cover the Sea

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,

mightier than the breakers of the sea—

the LORD on high is mighty. Psalm 93:4

Watching waves crash against the shore is always an awe-inspiring experience. Our God is so vast and infinite, His creation so marvelous, and we frail humans are so small in comparison. Yet we are His most treasured creations! It never ceases to amazes me.

We spent Sunday afternoon at the beach in Bassam, a town about 30-45 min. outside Abidjan. Deron's supervisor and his wife (who used to live here but now reside in Ouagadougou) are here for a visit and wanted to take us, Emily and Jesse to their favorite "get away" spot. It was so relaxing! We ate shrimp and kebabs at the restaurant, walked on the beach, and lounged beneath the straw hut shelters. They also had a beautiful pool. Rest assured, we will be going back!

The beautiful child below performed in a tribal dancing and drumming show on the beach. Her facial paintings and headdress are evidence she clings to ancient beliefs in the power of spirits and ancesters, rather than the power of the One True God.
