Seek and You Will Find

"This guy is making me tired,” our office guard said as he pointed toward “A,” a young Muslim-turned-Christian who’s passionate about his new faith.

“Why?” we responded with a laugh.

“Because he won’t stop talking to me about God.”

This is “S,” the same guard Deron and other colleagues have been witnessing to for months. Despite his protests, we sense he really wants to know the Truth.

But here’s the problem. “S” is a Muslim. His family is Muslim. He knows former Muslims (including “A”) who are mistreated for rejecting the family religion to follow Christ.

“S” knows his family will mistreat him if he makes that choice. In fact, the persecution has already started. When he brought home a Bible, his brother yelled at him and told him to get it out of the house.

He’s starting to look for excuses to avoid making the choice.

“Your God and mine, they’re the same, right?”
“Muslims and Christians follow the same rules -– love your neighbor, be kind to others.”
“We also believe in paradise (heaven).”

But the bottom line is:
“My family is Muslim. I don’t know if I can change.”

We told him, “This is an important choice –- one that each individual must make for himself or herself. It is not something that can be decided for you by your family.”

The look in his eyes said he knew that was true. And the decision is weighing on him. A few weeks ago, a fellow missionary told him to pray that God would reveal the Truth to him, perhaps in a dream. (Many Muslims decide to believe in Jesus because He appears to them in a dream).

So we asked, “S, have you asked God to reveal the Truth to you?”

“No,” he replied guiltily. “I know I should do that.”

“Yes, you must do that. God says in the Bible that if you seek Him -- really, truly seek Him -- you will find Him.”

We don’t know if “S” really grasps the enormity of the situation –- that the choice to stick with the religion of his family may make life here on earth easier to deal with, but that he’ll spend eternity separated from God.

Please join us in praying that “S” will be willing to lay aside his fears and seek the Truth with his whole heart. Pray that God will grab hold of him in such a way that he won’t be able to rest until he has wrestled with this decision and made the right choice.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matt. 7:7-8
