George, pt. 2

The trip to George went very well. I spent a lot of my time recording video clips of ministries among the Coloured and Xhosa people: a holiday Bible club, men's and women's conferences, and visits to prospective ministry sites. I also got to interview seven volunteers, about 10 kids from the holiday club, two pastors and several participants in the men's and women's conferences.
"Coloured" sounds like a taboo sort of word left over from the 1950s, but here it is an acceptable term used to describe an ethnic group in South Africa. People in the Coloured community are a unique blend of African, Asian and European backgrounds. In the cities along the coast of South Africa, many of them struggle with poverty, unemployment, gangs and alcohol addiction, but they are also friendly and joyful and full of life.

Please pray for missionaries and pastors working in Coloured communities. They need a lot of wisdom to know how to break through these challenging barriers to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the people.

Deron and Kylie traveled to George for the second part of the trip. The missionaries showed us several potential ministry sites, and we also talked with them about plans for some prayer and promotional materials about their work.

We also enjoyed playing on the beach and seeing some beautiful coastlines and ocean views, including a huge group of dolphins playing in the waves!
