The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest...
You have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor...
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
there will be no end.
Isaiah 9
It's a Christmas passage that many of us have known for years, but it's taken on a new and deeper meaning for us as we think about the millions of West Africans walking in darkness, not even aware there is a Light; oppressed by poverty and burdened by the yoke of false religion; rejoicing in seasons of good harvest and suffering through another year of living hand-to-mouth whenever the crops fail.
It's with great joy we tell you that GOD IS WORKING IN MIGHTY WAYS THROUGHOUT WEST AFRICA! This year, missionaries have experienced a responsiveness to the gospel that hasn't been seen in years. We really believe we arrived in this region just in time to see first-hand the beginnings of a great movement of God. The following post shares just a few of the wonderful stories we've heard.
Thank you for lifting us up, and even more thank you for lifting up the people of West Africa. Your prayers are being answered.
We pray you will experience His joy and peace in a fresh new way this holiday season. Joyeux Noel!
