We have enjoyed being here, but we've been so busy that it's been a bit overwhelming. It will be nice to have a break over the weekend. This week we have been in sessions all day and have homework or team meetings at night, so we're pretty exhausted.
Everyone here has to join a team: recreation team, prayer team, mail team, facilities team, etc. I am on the communication team, which does the bulletins boards, PowerPoints, annoucements, etc. Deron ended up on the audiovisual team, although he really wanted to be on the rec team. When we went to sign up for a team there weren't many options left, so he and our friend Drew (who is also going to West Africa) signed up for the AV team together. Since neither of them have much of an AV background, they like to joke that Deron is "technical" and Drew is "difficulties."
The West Africa region has assigned us five books to read, as well as several articles. In addition, we often have assignments for the daily classes we attend. It's a bit overwhelming right now, but we'll probably into the flow of things in another week or two.
We've also been trying to practice French with other people going to French-speaking countries. So far we've learned numbers and days of the week. Next week we'll work on basic phrases. It's a challenge but it's fun to work together as a group.
