Every day is different. Yesterday we got an overview of our schedule, met the orientation staff, and heard about banking options. Today we will attend sessions on payroll and taxes (necessary, but b-o-r-i-n-g). Later on the classes will get more interesting as we learn about cross-cultural communication, language acquisition skills, personal spiritual growth, etc. Our trainer for West Africa has also given us a HUGE 3-ring binder full of reading assignments. We will definitely be busy!
We are part of a unusually large orientation group. There are about 170 adults and over 50 kids here with us. People are heading literally all over the world -- some to large cities in Japan or Mexico, others to tiny villages in Africa.
Last night we discovered we're part of a small group made up of 11 missionaries all going to Africa. We will meet together on Sundays for small group worship, and also meet every Tuesday through Friday to discuss what has been talked about in the classes. We're looking forward to developing friendships with people who are going to the same part of the world we are.
By the way, we were right -- we'll need lots of immunization shots. Eight, in fact, along with one oral immunization and TB skin tests. Clinic days will be lots of fun ...
