We left missionary orientation on Thursday evening and have had a whirlwind tour of the Southeastern United States. Thursday night and Friday morning we were in Charlotte, NC, with my friend, Amy (Liz--we really missed you! Alas, the icy weather was not being cooperative). Then we drove to Birmingham and spent the night at my grandparents house (tip for you road warriors out there: NEVER drive through Atlanta -- traffic is terrible). Saturday we drove to Clinton, MS, so we could spend a few hours with Deron's parents before they flew back to Argentina today.
This morning we went to our church and also attended a Sunday School Christmas party, which was lots of fun. We enjoyed seeing our friends and we ate some GREAT food (doubly great after all the cafeteria food in Virginia...). This evening we head back to Birmingham to spend time with my brother and his wife, and on Tuesday we go with my family to Destin, FL. We'll actually be there for over a week without having to travel anywhere! Hopefully it will be nice and restful.
It is good to be back home again and we love seeing family and friends, but we also miss all the friends we made in Virginia. Those of you who are reading this -- we love you guys!
P.S. Several people have asked if we found Deron's wedding ring. The answer is: no. About 30 people made a chain and scanned the field, plus we had a metal detector, but unfortunately we couldn't find it.
