"We Have Brought to You Our Strangers"

We've had a fun and busy week traveling through Ghana!

Ghana is an English-speaking country, but some of their phraseology is a little different than we are used to. For example, visitors are called "strangers." So, Deron's supervisor, who used to live here in Ghana, keeps saying to everyone we meet, "We have brought our strangers here to see the ministries in Ghana..."

We started out at the Baptist Medical Centre, a hospital in rural northern Ghana. Here, two missionary doctors serve over 70,000 patients a year. In the past 50 years, around 60 churches have been started because of the hospital's ministry!

At the hospital we took lots of video footage for a doctor recruitment video we're going to put together. Hey, if you know any doctors considering missions, send them to http://www.gowestafrica.org/gosend/go.htm -- we desperately need another doctor at the hospital.

In the later part of the week we visited two seminaries in central Ghana. The missionaries working at these schools have a wide range of experience -- some have been in West Africa 20 or 30 years, and some arrived just three months ago! Pray for them as they have the important job of equipping Ghana's pastors and other Christian leaders.

Throughout the week we also got to do a few fun activities, like visit museums, culture centers, and artisan shops. We've also seen some beautiful scenery, including a series of waterfalls. Here are some more pictures from the week:

This is an ancient wall that was constructed to protect the village of Nalerigu. Legend says it was built of milk, honey and mud -- and the bones of human slaves, who were added to the wall when they started to act up...

Village kids LOVE to be in front of the camera -- they constantly jump in front of you and strike all sorts of silly poses (even when you'd rather they didn't...). Here's a little video showing some of their antics:
