Since our first week in Argentina was so busy, we've chosen to make our time in Esquel more relaxed. A lot of our time has been spent at Deron's parents' house, watching TV, playing cards, reading and resting. However, we have done some sightseeing.
Yesterday we took a ride on a steam train called The Old Patagonian Expressway (locally know as La Trochita). It is a small train that runs on tracks that are very close together (in fact, it is one of the longest running narrow-gauge railways in the world). It used to transport cargo and travelers, but now it is just a tourist train that takes a 2-3 hour tour through the mountains and includes a stop at a Mapuche Indian reservation.
Today we went to a national park and hiked around a series of four beautiful waterfalls. (Well, Sherrie and Mary Beth only hiked around two of them, but Deron and Dennis climbed further and discovered two more falls.) We also enjoyed the scenery of a gorgeous lake surrounded by mountains.
