We will be based in the city of Abidjan in the country of Cote d'Ivoire (aka Ivory Coast), but will work in 22 countries throughout West Africa. (The International Mission Board divides the world into 11 geographic regions, including a region called West Africa.)
Deron will serve as a Membercare counselor for other IMB missionaries working in West Africa. His primary responsibility will be to assist them in working together effectively as teams. He will also be available to counsel them during times of stress, isolation, discouragement and other difficulties.
Mary Beth will serve as media strategist for the region. She will be responsible for generating interest in West Africa and encouraging Christians to participate in the work there by praying, giving and serving as short-term volunteers or long-term missionaries.
